I am wondering if a longtail can be run on either a short transom or a tall transom? I was thinking it would be fine either way. Am I wrong? Thanks!!! |

Transon height is critical to design function.... They are built for either a 15 or 20 inch transom but not both -- it matters... |

you can add a swivel bracket if your motor is shotr and boat is tall, this will help. I ran a 31lt short transom on a tall boat, it worked me but did the job, but it's a world of difference when i put it on a boat it was made for. |

Thanks for the info!! I am going to look at a used jon boat with a mudbuddy. How will I be able to tell if the motor matches the transom height? Will it be stamped on the motor? I am going to water test it also. Will is perform poorly if they do not match? Thanks!!! |

im not sure where to look if tall r shawt but godevil has a number stamped on frame and you can call and ask. You probably wont notice it's not the correct combo until you put it on a matching setup IE- s/s or t/t |

I called mudbuddy today and Clint set me straight on matching longtails with the transom... 73" shaft fits 15" to 17" transoms 85" shaft fits 19" to 21" transoms He did say that a 85" shaft would work on a short transom with adjustment. However a 73" on a tall transom is not a very nice thing to do to your shoulder ![]() ![]() |
