 MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
Hey guys, went for my first run in my new ( to me) rig. 1542 Lowe Roughneck 23lt. This is my first time running a mud boat and i was't sure what to expect, all in all things went well. I know everybody want numbers, forgot the GPS at home. Me 165 and the dog 75 got on step on problem, battery in the back fuel in the front.
Had an issue with prop blowing out on the surface, little bending on the cav plate fixed that ( is it possible to bend it to much?)
Next issue is in order to have tiller handle at a comfortable position I had to stand on the seat. Is it normal to have to bend that? I have never read anything on that. Standing on the floor the handle is up to my ribs. By the way I know long tails recomends 16" transom, I have 20".

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
It seems if the motor is set up for 16" and mounted on a 20" that could be. But the angle is more like 10" out of the comfort zone, and standing on the seat is not an option long term. let me add this set up was bought seperatly so I really don't know anything about the boat the motor was on before I got it.

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
two options
1) cut the transom on the boat down to were it needs to be.
or
2) try to bend the handle / adjust handle some how? bend to were it needs to be?

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
Cut the transom down, it will be the best solution for the tiller and all around performance of the motor.

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
Thanks guys I am going to run it again Sunday. Wont forget the GPS this time. Also it is going to the shop at Go Devil next week for a good once over just because I dont know enough about these things yet. I want a tach installed and have everything tweeked and adjusted.
Also looking a the Go Devil wed site they have a option for a 20" transom $100.00 I want to see want that consist of. Since I like the idea of the tall transom i may have to buy into the option.

I ran mostly in a straight canal, other than still standing on the seat, all good but it ain't turning on any dimes. Just learning about these things, and being by myself I have not tried it in any soup are salad yet.

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
I have the same motor and I am assuming I have a 20" transom as well ( i am checking it iutater today) my hanxle is a bit high and never thought bout the transom being the problem as I am new to MMs also. I can say this, dont be scared to get her dirty she will be fine and you wont get stuck. Since I have had mine on the water for 3 weeks now I have taken it out almost everyday and I see how shallow I can get. A rough measurement from yesterday was bout 4" and 1' of mud and she just ripped right through it. I am hoomed being able to go anywhere I want. The "not turning on a dime" for me is because of the ribs on the bottom of my boat. Its not a true FB. If you have ribs that may be why. Might not turn on a dime but she sure whips around

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
Thanks TXHC, I have not been out this week but I took it back to GD for a once over and the did say the carb was out and it was tweeked . Also my friend has the tiller handle at work to bend it for the height adjustment, I should get it back tonight. What otw rpm are yall running on a stock 23 van. GD sent mine at 3900.
One last thing to do is a mod. on the throttle, I am going to the break/clutch lever.
Now that everything will be finished and I am starting to get comfortable running it I will be looking for soup and salad to try it out on this weekend.

 Re: MAIDEN VOYAGE TODAY
I havent had mine to long so others might be different but mine lastnight was saying 3200 on the tach but I think mine can use a good adjusting as well. My buddy has had the 20 hp honda for years so I have seen what that bad boy can do so the first thing I did was find some 4inch water and muck and hit it. It was fun its like the godevil loves med better than water ( yes I know thats what it was made for) lol
