16 vanguard fire problem!

 16 vanguard fire problem!
I run a 27 kohlerLt and my son has an old 16 vanguard, that all of a sudden is not firing on one side. We pulled the face plate off to look at the coil and a ground wire from the coil was burnt in two. Fixed that and still no fire. Do you think this coil is bad and needs replacing, help is appreciated lol

Well thats kinda what I thought , just wanted to check and see what others thought,,, Im not real good on electrical stuff

Dunno, that's why I said post a pic. I would think it would run with the diode out, just wouldn't shut off. Let's see a pic though.
