Are Grizzlys That Bad with Long Tails?
I ordered a 1648 skiff to be made a few months ago for my 24hp lt. I have been waiting and waiting and i feel like i am getting the run around. The price of the boat is the same as the 16' Tracker Grizzly and i won't have to travel 8 hours to get it a grizzly, and then paint it. I searched the MMT site and never really found anything possitive about the Grizzlys. I didn't know if this is just because you guys are so experienced that you can tell every little difference (things that the common duck hunter wouldn't notice), or if i would be completely unsatisfied if i bought the grizzly and it wouldn't plane out. I don't want to make a mistake on my first true duck boat, and i have learned a ton on this site so far, so i was hoping for some opinions. I am a big guy, and there wil ba another guy on the boat with me. Most of what i have to deal with is stumps and not mud. Thanks

You will get the best performance from a mudhull, it slides off stumps and grass 100x easier.
A longitudinaly braced mudhull will hold up to the stumps better (you wont destroy the bottom in two seasons)

Re: Are Grizzlys That Bad with Long Tails?
I owned a Grizzly 1754 before I bought my Gator Trax 1750 HD and the difference was noticeable. I'm by no means an expert on hulls but the difference was there in the way the boats ride and go over stuff. The Gator Trax will go over saw grass, mud flats, and the occasional stump like if they were made of butter. The Grizzly on the other hand had a hard time making it over the same stuff since they're a modified V. The main difference I noticed between my two boats was the ability to turn. The Grizzly would slide all over the place making tight high speed navigation at night difficult. The GT turns like if it was on rails grabbing the water perfectly with no slip at all.
One other thing I've noticed between the two hulls is there ability to carry a load. The Grizzly used to sit low in the transom so all weight needed to be shifted forward and it also sat deeper so it was harder to get out on plane. This is not the case with the GT. For some reason, I can put most of my load at the rear of the boat and it still sits perfectly level in the water.
Like I said, I'm no expert but I have owned both brands and there's a huge difference between a real mud hull and a Grizzly. You'll be happy with your custom hull.
