Post subject:  Longtail Balance point question

I'm planing a home build 6.5hp longtail and would like to know where the pivot point should be. I have not run a mud motor so I don't have a hands-on feel for them.

Is it best to make it motor heavy, tail heavy, neutral? How heavy (pounds at tiller or prop) if not neutral? It will have a cav plate if that makes a difference.

Did a search, but didn't find my answer....

Thanks!

go to your local lt dealer and see what theirs is, it should be evenly balanced. the biggest factor is transom heighth, and makin sure your cav plate is leveled. i made mine a little tail heavy so it would dig a little easier, but not much so its not a pain to lift the prop. again, biggest issue is makin sur eyour cav plate is where it needs to be.

I like mine just slightly tiller heavy when it breaks over level, so you don't have to tie it down every time you stop.
