I am a newcomer to this site but not a newbie to LT running. I've done that since 1989. Back in 2004, at the suggestion of a good friend, I switched to synthetic (Mobil 1) oil and grease in my well-broken in Kohler motor. I must admit I was a skeptic at first, also considering that these were more expensive than the conventional oil/grease, but I have noted superior performance since then. I know many power shops and others say there is no difference but I believe there is. I notice that the major mfg.'s also recommend synthetic oil after break-in (but no mention of synthetic grease application). Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just BS or wishful thinking? I'm also using the synthetic grease in my trailer bearings. In truth, I am not overly fond of anything synthetic, but I just wanted to sound out any opinions.... ![]() |

I switched to mobile 1. Years ago because my motor was damn near froze up on a hunt thankfully we had a mr heater to thaw everthing out the oil was thickened up and the grease was like heavy frosting the high temp that day was 14 degrees through. But we hammered the geese |

Wow,we are spoiled compared to everyone up north-we complain more about the heat and generally pray for cold fronts. I did experience carburator "icing" or bogging down a couple times when it was in the twenties down here. I think that Mobil 1 is worth it. |
