Post subject:  First Post, Longtail/Boat Combo Question

Hi all,

I bought my first mud motor for this season. Used 13 HP Mud Buddy long tail for 1K, I'll never go back to an outboard.

I mounted the engine on a 1436 Lowe. I had the boat already. It surpassed my expectations, but it is cramped with 2 guys, dog, decoys, etc. I'd like to get something with a little more room, but save some expense and just get a replacement boat, rather than a boat motor combination. Then I can put the outboard back on and sell that for some money to pick up the new boat.

My question is will this motor perform better or equal to how it does now on a 1648, or what size boat can you recommend?

I'm open to all suggestions. I'd LIke to be able to get out on Saginaw bay, but I don't quite trust my current rig due to it being right at max capacity loaded up. I'd like to stay at about a 16' so I can store in my garage.

Here's a pic of my rig.

The 13hp will crawl if on a 1648. you're probably looking at getting a 23hp or larger for any real performance on a bigger boat.

Get a 16-17x42, perferrably a mudhull.

Slap a 23 on that frame when you get tired of one cylinder.

Thanks for the heads up on a bigger boat being a dog with this motor on it.
