Another newbie question...

My motor doesn't swivel around to allow for easier traveling, I have it on a traditional 3 seat 15x48 bateau. The handle and the bracket just under the motor rest on the edge of the back seat. I can't figure out an easy way to secure the motor to keep it from bouncing around and ripping the transom off. Any thoughts? Pictures would definitely help.


I currently have a 4x4 block of wood under the handle and the gunnel strap looped around the handle and tightened to the trailer. It's not going anywhere but is there a better solution?

right under the MMT banner on any forum page is the search feature. this topics pretty beat to death.. just a rope around the handle is good, theyre made to do that. if youre really worried about your transom, you need a stronger boat.

i actually saw a nice setup one time that used a modified transom saver bracket that had two
utility straps that hooked to each side of the boat trailer

transom saver propped that motor up, was connected to the shaft with a strap then pulled down towards the left and right side of the boat trailer with the 2 utility straps, they also had the handle tied across the boat to keep it from moving left and right

Just as Fishon said, a strap around the handle is all you need. LTs are balanced so, you don't need a transom saver. Just a transom string enough to support the weight of the motor. On the other hand, a weighted-back motor needs something to stop the motor from slapping up and down.

I wasn't worried about my transom on mine, I was worried about the shaft whipping up and down and putting stress on the welds over time.

A rope around the handle should have enough give to absorb the shock. It doesn't have to be cinched down tight like a guitar string, just enough to hold things in place. I've trailered them with just the rope we use to hold it out the water, GD neutral, and it just floats there. Even on bumpy roads.

Strap the shaft to the trailer under your transom, then strap the tiller handle to the bottom of the hull inside the boat.
