Without gear reduction, any money spent on this will be counterproductive. The cheapest tweak, if you have not already done this, is to advance the throttle to get around 4100 rpm's out of the water. This should get you maybe a 2 mph gain in the water. Any wear (been said a thousand times) on the prop will slow you down- well, there are exceptions on initial "break-in" where you can actually gain some speed if you have too much cup,etc.- so investing in a new prop is a good thing- you need a backup in any case. The mfg. can alert you to proper application depending on your elevation. A new set of plugs, an oil change, use of synthetic oil/grease, removing any foam "pre-cleaner" around the air filter, application of steelflex or smooth slick epoxy type finish on the hull bottom, adjusting the cavitation plate to optimize planing, moving the battery and/or gas tank up front and experimenting with balancing the load, are all relatively easy "mods". A hull less than 16' may warrant the use of transom pods, but they are not cheap, and if not done correctly, a mess-up. Just like a scattergun, there are limits to any longtail/hull combo.
