 Re: homemade help
Keep using your search feature provided on the site, there has been some really nice homemade rigs made from people on this site. McMaster Carr has almost everything needed for one.

 Re: homemade help
I just got finished building such a motor. I recieved a suggestion here that the maxtool 16hp for 289 shipped was a decent motor. I got one, swapped it on my homebuilt frame that had a harbor freight 13hp and it was a LOT faster and smoother running. However, I noticed on my first run with it tonight that the muffler was cherry red. It ran good though. I also suggest buying DOM (drawn over mandrel) tubing from "metalbythefoot.com". They shipped very fast and were cheap. I attempted to buy a u-joint and yokes from rcpm but STILL have not got it. I bought a setup locally and it works o.k. Make very certain if you use bushings that you buy and extra bronze bushing to cut down and use as a driver to seat the other bushings or you will ruin them. It needs to be a press fit, but not require a lot of force to press in. I took a little off the O.D. of my bushings with a belt sander so they'd fit right. I would definitely go with the maxtool 16hp engine next time. It was a lot smoother running and you need every bit of horsepower you can get. If you go over 16hp, the price will go MUCH higher. I did find that the maxtool motor had a boogered up key switch that would allow the key to fall out unless it was in the ON position, unlike the harbor freight engine which worked properly. GOod luck with yours, JBJ
