Post Need Help!
I bought a 27 horse kawasaki mudbuddy a few months ago and finally got it on a boat its a 16 foot fisher flat bottom the motor will turn right around 4000 rpm's out of the water and the governor still isnt fully open, well with just me gas tank and battery it turned 3200 rpms in the water and it was runnin maybe 12 mph and the prop is a 9x7 thats pretty worn out, and I noticed at wide open throttle in the water the governor is opened wide open so it couldnt be that the governor isnt adjusted right. Well my 200 pound brother got in the boat and about the same speed and same exact rpm's. Shouldnt my rpm's be up and my speed with just me in the boat? I put 2 new spark plugs and it didnt help any, the tank and fuel line are also brand new and yes the tank is vented. Whats my problem? I need help its a week today until duck season and I need it fixed any suggestions? Here is a couple pictures of it.

But arent my rpms way too low? especially with a worn prop? I thought a worn prop made rpms higher. I got a buddy with a 29 kawi only thing different is its fuel injected and he turns nearly 4100 out of water and 3800 in water with a good prop.

First, I am assuming you have a low transom on that hull. I run a 27 MB Kohler longtail and I actually run better with a 9x6 prop. If the cup is gone then you won't get the push. Out of the water the rpms are good; I get 4150- in the water you should be turning anywhere from 3600-3800. If otherwise the Kaw is running good, you need to test another prop. Is the prop and cavitation plate planing right? I mean it should be just under the surface; or is it popping out or running too deep? You should also try adjusting the trim tab for this. MB makes good props but the Tiger 9x7 is too sluggish for my motor- apparently too much of a cup or the wrong pitch; I am getting good running with a Ron Hill 9x6; I've also got good results with a GD 9x6.

Good deal. I am not too familiar with the Kaw powerplant but I've heard the replacement parts are more expensive say compared to the Kohler or Briggs motors. A couple years back there was a rash of defective coils on some Kohlers but luckily for those owners they were under warranty. Hopefully you'll be firing on both cylinders soon, I know I stress with the season here underway tomorrow and I wish you good hunting!
