Post subject: | Broken Shaft!! Help!! |
Went to go hunting this morning, got to the boat launch and let my 27 Go Devil run to warm up. Made a wierd noies but stopped shortly after. Put the boat in the water and then I heard a plop and saw bubbles. WTF! At first I thought the nut came loose and the prop spun off...... Nope the shaft broke right at the hub. Must have hit something last time out. Whats left on the shaft is the hub and the first nut. How much of a pain is it going to be for ME to replace the shaft on this thing and should i get the tool from GD? Any and all info greatly appreciated. PS no dealers any where near me. ![]() |

The tool from GD will not help you. It screws onto the threads that are now broke off. You will have to pull the motor off the frame to pull the shaft out. Then when you replace the shaft make sure to replace the seals and bearings while your in there. When remounting the motor make sure it aligned properly so that it doesnt vibrate your hand to numbness. |

Take a saws all and cut the shaft even with the upper bearing collar. Hammer the shaft out using a short socket then a long one. There is barely enough room to swing a hammer but it can be done. Once you get past the upper bearing collar you can pull it out by hand. No need to change bearings and seals unless they need it. Sand edges of key way and end of upper shaft and insert slowly and carefully as to not damage the seals in the upper bearing assembly. It's a piece of cake. |

If you cut your shaft or not file your shaft before pulling it through your bearings and seals, the u-joint set screw will burr up the shaft and could get hung up on your bearings. More than likely you will need to replace your seals, lip seals are sensitive. When you pull out our shaft, twist the shaft while pulling and this will help keep your seals from tearing or flipping inside out. Good luck Measure your shaft and go to a machine shop, ask for 3/4" shaft material and have a key way and threads cut into it. |

Thanks for all the info. Called up Go Devil today and orderd everything I needed from the Upper seal all the way down except the prop. Cost with shipping was $135. The lady I spoke to was very knowledgeable and told me because I have newer seals I will be recieving a shaft with plastic covering the key way so as not to damage the seals when I reinstall. I will let you guys know how I do. ![]() |
