First off, please don't tell me to just buy a surface drive. I will be in places littered with stumps, logs and beaverdams or either in the Mobile delta with a lot of oyster beds. Now since I have very limited knowledge of common problems with these, or any other mud motor, what are some things I need to be sure to check out? I'm buying just the motor and running it in the water is not an option. The motor is a 2005 Go-Devil 35 longtail. It has no tach, but appears to be in great shape from the pictures. Please help me out. Thanks in advance. |

I would advise against buying a motor that you can't test in the water. When I bought mine it ran great OOW but as soon as I put it in the water I started having fuel issues. They run very different in the water versus out, JMO. |

Good advice, g-devil. I run a 27 LT and it gives me a good workout each time out. I am thinking of moving to a 35 LT down the road, what kind of speeds are you getting with the 35? If I could plane at 20 mph with two hunters and gear I would be satisfied. countryhick, whatever you buy, definitely invest in a tiny tach to monitor the motor. |

depends own the prop own the 35lt i aint in a hurry most of the time. i have both 10x5 and 10x6 both will push a 3man load better than any lt i have been in. most of the speed with a lt is what hull u run my 1656 is not gona b as fast as a 1844. the best way to explain it is with ether prop it faster then u want to hit something with it. i haven't gps my lt so i cant say for sure but i think with a modest load low 20s |

I have a mudbuddy 35Lt on a 16/48 go devil. I get a solid 24 mph by myself with 6 gallons of fuel and decoys and equip. With two big people 450 lbs I get 22mph and with three people loaded down 20mph. I am very happy with mine. When you make a sharp turn, make sure you are idling and you will be alright. I have a friend with a pro drive 31 hp on a gator trax 17' and I can walk off and leave him. His will do 22mph with one person. |

Thanks, those are tremendous speeds and performance from an LT! I am planning on moving from my 1648 to an 1848 mud hull/flat bottom for a bit more room for three hunters if necessary. With our frequent low water and hard bottom areas the LT is the better choice. |

I really appreciate all the information. The motor is not on a hull and I don't have access to one that I can put it on. I'm going to ask the guy if he has access to one so I can run it, but I don't know if it will work out or not. I think I can get it for $3000. Does this seem like a good price? |
