Post subject:  U-Joint question

I've started getting all the parts together for my LT build. I going to run a stage 1 16hp Honda clone. I went to driveshaftparts.com as recommended by several forum members. When I checked the specification on the U-Joints, I found the Spicer 1000 series joints are not rated for more that 3000 RPM's. and as the angle of the U-Joint is increased the rating drops even lower. The torque rating are well within spec but the RPM's have got me a little worried. Do I need to be concerned about this? Also is there a different make or model of U-Joints I need to look at?

Get U joints rated for your application. There are other online sources if that website doesn't carry them.

I've been looking at different suppliers. The Weasler series 12 U-Joints seem to be the strongest I can find that offer the 3/4 and 1" joints. One of the biggest problems is the lack of technical specifications on the products. I was hoping someones experience could point me in the right direction. Has anyone here had a catastrophic U-Joint failure? There's a big difference in torque between a 6.5 and a modded 16hp engine and the plans don't address that. I might be beating a dead horse but I hate rebuilding stuff because of an oversight or under estimation. Or should I just say a prayer and wrap the area with a old flack vest? LOL

I would call mudbuddy and ask. They've been helpful to me. They'll either sell you what you need or tell you the manufacturer they use/ model #'s.

Unlike Coco. lol.

I looked on my 23, but I don't see any model #.

I get my U-joints from Napa.

EDIT: I called Boat Doctor last week about getting just one U-joint and he said they didnt come like that. They only sell a U-joint kit which is 90 bucks....
