 first longtail
hey guys im new to the forum and wanted to get your advice..this was my third duck season and i absolutly love it so ive been browsing for a boat...i found a lady selling a boat...its either a 14 or 15 foot alweld flat between 42 and 48 wide..it has a briggs 20hp longtail on it...motor needs a tune up and a few little things...she wants 1000 for it but i will see how far i can talk her down lol...do yall think this would be a good deal?? any input helps!!

yeah she does she showed me lol...my buddy has a 14 ft flat with a 23hp longtail and ive driven it a number of times so it wont be my first time driving one...just being my first boat i dont want to get messed over or anything or it be underpowered or anything..also on those motors arent all the keys the same...and cant you get them from a lawnmower shop?

Yeah, you can get the keys everywhere, just get the number off the switch.
That is a great price if the motor is in good shape, hard to find just a good motor for that. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

ok awesome...yeah i know its been sitting up...my buddy looked at it before i did and he ran the engine when he looked at it a few months ago...but im going to run it before i buy it

If there are no serious issues with either, it sound like a winner. Replacement parts for these motors are relatively cheap; aluminum jon boats will last a lifetime unless abused. The obvious things come to mind- get all the requisite safety items- never skimp on those, balance your load, get plenty of practice,, and above all, have fun.

$1000 is a deal if it has all the paperwork. My old LT cost me that alone, at it has been well used.
