What size motor for 12' boat
I have an old very light 12' rivited boat that I would like to put a small long tail on. What HP motor should i look at getting without going too big?
Thanks

Re: What size motor for 12' boat
I had a 12ft boat with a 9hp LT on it for one season, and it did just fine

If you are wanting to keep that boat for sentimental reasons, don't strap a mm on there... It will trash a rivited jon in a hurry.

X2 on the 9 hp. I use one on a 1542 and it pushes me along just fine.

What size motor for 12' boat
I have a 23 on a 12x42 and I wouldn't want anything smaller on it, but it's a welded Jon boat, I'm not sure how the rivets would hold up. I promise you I haven't found any mud that I couldn't get out of yet, and as far as the boat it has held up fine over the last couple years, but on the other hand I'm not jumping levees or stumps either.

Re: What size motor for 12' boat
On a riveted boat I wouldn't go much past 9hp. After that the weight starts being a issue on that transom...... We are putting a 6.5hp homemade on the old mans 1232, that tippy sob makes me nervous wit a MM................
