Post subject: | Broken yoke |
Took the boat out this weekend and somewhere in my ride I broke one side of my lower yoke off! Then my key way on my shaft got wallered out a bit, then my set screw scrathed up shaft a good bit, then the u joint slung around and ruined my other yoke. So after I get around to fixing both yokes does anyone know of a way to get my key to stay in the key way and my set screw to stay set without having to buy a whole new shaft? I have less than 5 hours on this brand new shaft I just had built and they damn sure aint cheap!! I have heard of putting a set screw on top og my keyway and lightly drilling out my key to make it set in there. Any help with all of this would be greatly appreciated! And how the hell do you brake a yoke? Im a little rough on it but no rougher than the guy in the next boat? Thanks, Jake |

Yup I would drill and tap a hole in your yoke for your key way, put lock tight on and crank it down |

I've got a brand new set of yokes with the u-joint already installed. One yoke is a 1" round with a 1/4" keyway and the other yoke is a 3/4" round with 3/16" keyway. The 3/4" yoke is already drilled and tapped for a second set screw to make sure nothing comes loose. PM me for contact info if you are interested. |

yea thats about right. 2 yokes and u-joint in spicer or neapco in the heavier use is around 90-100 dollars. i run the neapco 1500 series, got at napa. they are rated at rpm at angle. dont know the exact but the more angle the lower the rpm's. the cheap $20 ones at ujoints.com are rated at 4000- but at less than an 8* angle. plus i dont know about all manufactuers but the 3/4 yoke on gd's shaft need a 1/4 key. |
