Ran my boat today at an Everglades Recreational area. 1648m Crestliner Me-165lbs friend-200 Girlfriend-120 3 month old chesapeake bay retriever-30lbs Misc- Seats, 2 small coolers, bass rods, 2 tackle boxes- maybe 60lbs? 6 gallon gas tank completely full. Calm wind, no current, shallow water in an airboat trail 20.1 MPH picture included AVG speeds include me taking turns in trails and stopping to fish. When loading boat to ramp I went and ran it by myself with NO LOAD. She ran 23 MPH On the dot, I loaded the boat back up, starting rolling to the hose area to clean up and I realized max speed was 28 mph from my truck speed. I will be compiling a video eventually from my go-pro, stay tuned for that. and as for my previous post, I had previously posted it could go "just under 25" I understand 2MPH is a huge speed increase, so I do apologize for exaggerating my "screaming speeds" and as to my "Extensive Modifications" that don't exist, I plan on installing some, like maybe a bottle opener or something cool. have a nice night ![]() |

By the looks of your profile pic you seem to have a lot of extra time on your hands, and if you want your more than welcome to come to south Florida and take a nice ride on my rig and I'm sure you'd have a great time. No one made you respond to my first post or this post, so what are you getting at here? |

Are you really that stupid? How does my avatar show that I have to much time on my hands? And considering that you named me in the title of this thread and sent me a PM to come look at this thread I think it was YOU who asked for my comment. And my response is, your full of shit! |

I guess everyone is entitled to their "opinions", and In your first post you challenged me By saying it was "screaming fast" Now I have provided proof and you are still ignorant. It's quite funny arguing over a few mph's....... Its become fun to watch you squirm and predict your next response ...so type away with your furious fingers and keep saying I'm full of it. Like I said. Come take a ride yourself.... |

bullshit and I won't believe it till you post a video with that load doing 20.1 in no current. if you had a 27, I probably still wouldn't give you the benefit of the doubt. |

I just took my 23 gdlt of my 1648 weld bilt and I could barely get 20mph light boat with wind and current in my favor, grant you I don't have any mods, so I really don't expect more then that. I put it on a 1242 and I barely get 22mph but again that's light boat with winds and current in my favor, so I doubt it. And by the way you could have called yourself something else! |

Those are speeds a 35 would put out. I've never heard or seen a 23 get those. If you can show us how you're getting those numbers - we'd probably stop slagging you. |

BS, I run a 23 SD on a 16x48 and with that load don't even come close to 20..... With two big guys and fishing gear, i'm jumping with joy when I bump 19.5 on a secluded canal thats 8" deep. Against heavy winds, current, rough bays I'm lucky to maintain 16 mph at times. Granted those are extreme conditions. I'm going to venture to say with the three people and a dog you could be close to plowing. You sure you didn't have that GPS set on Kilometers per hour or whatever the European speeds are based on? |

If you Look at my GPS it says Maximum Speed- 20.1 MPH To clarify some points Yes, that means MAXIMUM SPEED Yes, my boat weighs 275 pounds Yes, it is made of .072 Gauge aluminum Yes, the boat does plow with 3 people and a dog if weight is not positioned properly. Yes, the rev limiter is set up to run 100 RPMs over normal Yes, the Speed of 23mph MAXIMUM SPEED claimed is correct That is just me on the boat alone, NOTHING IN IT, push pole, coolers, seats, gun racks, absolutely EVERYTHING out of the boat besides the gas tank and motor and one battery. Yes, the Speed of 23mph was attained in SHALLOW WATER, with NO WIND, And the me Sitting down out of the wind and pulling on the TILLER to attain MAXIMUM TRIM. No, the boat doesn't run 20.1 consistently, it runs anywhere from 18.9-20.1 depending on bottom depth, and wind, no current down here in the everglades. The 20.1 was attained with 2 people standing in the back next to the tiller, and the 3rd, lightest person, just in front of the grab handle, so the boat would not plow. and No the boat does not run 23 MPH consistently with one person. More like 21-22 with a normal boat load and one person. Since the beginning I stated, "I ATTAINED A SPEED" Meaning running along these trails i was doing about 19-20 and The GPS RECORDED A MAXIMUM SPEED OF 20.1 I Have nothing to gain by claiming Ridiculous speeds, This is my first Mud motor and hull, and I was surprise when I started learning about them and they're speeds. I believe my boat runs the way it does due to. a. the lightness of the hull b. the topography of my area c. the Brand new paint on the bottom of my boat d. the Modified V of my hull, allowing it to run on less surface area in the back Here in the Florida Everglades the bottom is usually soft and not too thick, and there isn't much wind, and no current, so I can safely say I had no help from either. I respect the claims of people saying this is Bullshit, and with most people here having had mud boats and mud motors all their lives they know they're equipment and they're capacities. I have no reason to make preposterous claims, if my boat did 15mph I still wouldn't care, I am happy It runs through absolutely anything I put it through and gets me where I want to go. Hopefully this clarifies the subject a little, and maybe i should've posted all this since the beginning. My mis-explanation of the data. YES I will be posting a Video as soon as I can go run the boat again and film the speeds. |

I hear you, quackkills. A good friend of mine runs an older Lowe 1648 .072 gauge MV jon with a veteran 25 HP GD LT, that is much lighter than my 1648 Grizzly and he runs 22 mph with just himself and with his two big sons (both well over 200#) runs 18.3 mph and I can vouch for that since I was only just ahead of them at 20.1 mph, using a 27 HP MB LT. I would also recommend steelflex for the bottom of the hull, removing the foam pre-cleaner from around the air filter if it has one to improve air flow, using synthetic oil (Mobil 1 for example) and grease. I want to clarify for those outside of our area, that there is little surface mud except for those floating hard mud rafts that stop everything, and underneath the bottom muck is hard as hell limestone. On the Big O, there is less muck and plenty of sand and marl that will also eat up your props in a hurry. The thinner-skinned jon boats are viable here and I wish my hull weighed less (395#) but I can see the need for the 1/4" alum skin elsewhere. |
