Stumbled upon a deal that I couldn't pass up: A new taxidermist in town did a mount for a guy that apparently forgot to mention he couldn't pay for the duck mount.....So he gave the taxidermist a brand-new, 10hp long-tail for his payment. The taxidermist does not need the motor and is going to sell it to me for the price of the mount((250)). My question is, what is the best size boat for a small motor like this? I've had a guy tell me that a skiff is better but I'm looking to buy on a budget so any ideas are appreciated. |

It'll be a turd on whatever you put it on, but it will get you there. I wouldnt go any smaller than a 14x36 |

Ive asked about getting additional speed but i can get 10-12 on a older 1448 Grizzly Tracker with LT Go-Devil 9.9. I cant get any faster but i will get there and have no problem in shallow water. |

Does Go-Devil still make those old 36" wide skiffs that were .100 guage? think they had a 14'36 and 15'36? Would be a nice little ride. http://www.godevil.com/15x30-36_Duck_Skiff.html |

I occasionally use a 9hp on my 1542 - works great! not a speed demon - but it does the job. Good sized hunting platform too. |

I'd go 14x36. it should just plane with only you in it, unless you eat 6 cheese burgers a day. |

We built a 9hp homemade longtail for a 1436. The shaft is 72in for better speed, and its spinning a 7.5x4 prop at 3500rpm..... Alone it will go 14-15mph.. 2 guys its down to 11.... Fast enough for a small boat.. |

Sorry guys, it has been a while since I've been around the house.....I know most people prefer a longer, narrow boat for longtails but my brother-in-law is going to lend me a 14x50 to put the motor on it I let him use it to fish during the summer. I, obviously, have no issue with it because its a free boat and trailer BUT would that little motor push that boat with two people in it? That's pretty wide for a longtail isn't it? |
