 Check this out - Oops!!
removing my old prop from my GDLT (its an old model 9 hp)
was removing all was well then - this happened :
yup. It snapped clean off.
Good thing I was in my garage and not the lake =)

Buzz, I've seen that a couple of times over the years, but only when real manly men were wrenching on it. Since you have to replace the shaft may I suggest doing the upper bearing instead of a bushing and the new spiral groove lower bushing with new seal collar and seals. That will bring it up to 2012 specs and grease usage and seal wear almost is eliminated. Coco made the improvements backward compatible and the oldest I've done was a 1988 model. Seal and shaft wear in our glacial silt was bad, but now it is almost eliminated. stu
