 Kohler or Briggs
Kohler is up here ta what Briggs is down south. Both er goodins. Ya get yer bad eggs and ya get yer good eggs from both sides. Don't know much bout da briggs, but kohler er long lasting motors. I run my business right next door to kohler where they make em. I have customers dat work in every area of da plant. Da best ones ta talk to er da engineers. They get ta run em motors through da ropes. Crazy talk bout how bad they beat on em fer testing. I would guess dat Briggs does da same though too.

 Re: Kohler or Briggs
Started off with a Briggs 18 GD LT- very reliable. Same thing with the two Kohler 25's and my present 27 Kohler. I see a lot of 23 Briggs LT's in the marsh and the owners love them. The only problematic motor to speak of is the Honda 24 that I have personally seen. The Briggs and Kohler parts and service centers are easily obtainable. The "new" Generac 33 that MB is touting is a mystery to me, would like to hear from any owners. I like the fact both Kohler and Briggs are still made in the States!

 Re: Kohler or Briggs
I stand corrected- thought my GMC Sierra was also and then I looked under the hood. Certainly the aftermarket filters, etc. come from India, Israel, and any number of places. I am still happy that many citizens are still employed here by Kohler and Briggs respectively. I still recommend both motors, daddyflea!

 Re: Kohler or Briggs
I ascribe to the person on this site who suggested to get "all the horsepower you can afford"- of course to match the hull/load you are configuring. I do believe the 27 is worth the extra moolah over the 23. Good luck with whatever you purchase and have fun!
