I bought a different boat about a month ago, a 1436 Duracraft Mod. V and the guy that had it built up the transon to around 21" so he could use a long shaft outboard on it. I took it out for a run yesterday with my homebuilt 6.5hp. mud motor that I built last fall. It seems to go slower than the other boat that I had before a 1430 flatbottom. If I remember right I think I read that with a 6' long shaft on the mud motor you should have a 14" transon to get the best out of the boat and motor. I am thinking about cutting 6 or 7 inches off the back to lower the transom, just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Thanks for any input. |

Your motor is a home built so your guess is as good as mine of transom height. The guys are right saying 16" but thats assuming your home built transom clamp bracket and angles are the same as most production models. Duckdon |

Longer shaft is all that is different on a tall transom longtail motor..... Cut it to 15-16 and it should help... Longer shaft equals flat'r drive equals better performance.... So a tall transom with a short (60in) shaft longtail will equal crappy performance... |
