Post 23 or 27 backwater?
New to your forum and world, building a custom 17x42 .100 5052 boat w pods, have done a few with .125, and ribbed floor. Want to lighten up for smaller motor for my daughter to handle for bowfishing and cruisin, live on upper mississippi river pool 6, will 23 be too young ?

All the variables need to be accounted for to give you accurate info on this topic. The first and most important variable we need is pics of your daughter. If she is going to be handling a MM we need to see what she looks like in order to make a judgement of what she can handle.

If you can afford it, go big. You won't regret it.

Keep in mind the 23 has a pull start and the 27 don't. If shell be runnin it alone it might be worth the piece of mind knowing she won't be stranded with a dead battery

Can't you buy the conversion kit to put a pull start on that 27?? I believe this was brought up a while back in another topic, but not positive.

you prolly can, i didnt think about that. if thats the case then i guess the only question is how big a girl is she. if she can handle the 27 then sure. i got a 23 on a 1642 and its plenty for me but ive never ran a 27 either

27 but the 23 is a heck of a motor. 23 can hang, where you'll like the 27 is with the additional torque/load carrying. Anyone got any specs on the difference? I love my 23 but when my boat is loaded I hate it and wish I had more torque, holeshot, load carrying ability. But thats not to frequent only a couple times a year.

23 seems to be best bang for your buck all around. Pull start, electric start, a work horse... Etc

A 27 will give a bit more - I'm not overly familiar with the kohler but I hear it's a great motor.

If going new - go as big as youd like- seems to be the trend here lol ;)

23 with Mikuni & exhaust. IMHO, better motor & better performance.
