Hey everyone,
I am new to the mud motor world and new to the site.
I picked up a 1648 starcraft with a 20 hp bog hog lt on it. I wasn't worried about not getting a name brand motor since I got a good deal, my dad is a good fabricator and I can fix things (most of them time

). Now I am a little uneasy about getting a non-name brand motor!
I wanted to strip the whole lt down and rebuild it since it was used in salt water as the frame had some rust. It appears that the bushings spun in the shaft and the seals were trashed from lack of maintenance. Instead of a simple strip down, bushings, seals, and paint, I seem to have my hands full. I looked at the mb longtails we have at work and it looks like there is a center bushing that is held with a set screw. Is this something feasible to do on my motor on the upper and lower bushings? I think I saw some homemade motors using set screws. The material used for the bog hog is thinner than the md so we would have to reinforce the shaft housing in order for the set screw to have something substantial to thread into. The lower bushing was tough to pull out and seemed pressed in pretty well. The upper bushing came out pretty easy.
Anyone have any suggestions aside from finding a mb or gd frame
