So I just added a cross over exhaust to my 31 and a New GD 10x4 heavy cupped prop.

I have a few question. I have the baffle plug thingy in the exhaust and like the sound it has but if I remove the bolt and take it off will it make a difference in Speed and so on? I know it will be alot lounded but I am looking for numbers.

Also I am running 3400 RPM at 19.5 - 20 mph with it right now.

When the prop was worn I was running 3700 at 15mph. If there is thing else I can do to get back up to the 3700 rpm with a new prop without doing a bunch on interal work?

Thanks for the help!

Not sure. My 27 LT is rated for the 9x7 prop but it runs better with a 9x6 and I get 3650 rpm at 19.5 mph with just me in the 1648 hull. When I put the 9x7 it won't turn more than 3450 wide open and my speed is only 18.3. You may experience a little more gain after the prop wears a bit. I experienced this with my last GD 25 and prop.

Sorry, I meant to say also to experiment with a smaller prop. One of the problems of the LT without gear reduction is you reach a "plateau" of diminishing returns, meaning even with more rpm's, you won't gain more speed unless you have a prop to match this. I am looking forward to the proposed MB LT's with gear reduction in the 35, 27, and 23 HP configurations. I bet there will be a lot of tinkering with props and mods there. I thought about getting the BPS SS muffler for my Kohler 27 (around $400) but I bet I won't realize much gain.

Tailfisher what hull is that 31 one and how difficult is it to drive ? The Go Devil dealer is trying to steer me in the 23 lt direction and the young man in the everglades is getting 20 mph with two people in his boat. Now I am getting really confused.

I have heard about gaining speed after GD prop wears a bit.

Did you notice any difference after the exhaust?

Thanks Tailfisher, you have alot of boat and full of gear so that is impressive. IF you had to do it over again would you get the 35? I was told extremely difficult to control in a turn. Also how much of a concern is it to you guys to not have a recoil starter, or is it a non issue?

Thanks

I like the 31 and if I did it over and had a choice I would have gotten a 35SD.

My 25GDLT was harder to drive than my 31GDLT......

As far as dead batterys I have a Jump box on my boat but I have never needed it (yet).

Thanks Tailfisher now I'm back to square one after I eliminated the SD from the equation but it seems like most everyone wishes they had bought or will buy next a SD. It took me three airboats to finally just build the one I want and I dont want to make that costly mistake with my duck boat purchase. Has anyone bought a surface drive and sold it to get a longtail? engine will be used in central and southern florida, mostly hard sand bottom with thick hydrilla very little gooey mud.

Thanks

If you are unsure of which one to get, surface drive or long-tail, buy the surface drive. And if you don't like it, it will be easier to resale than the long-tail.

Buy a 35SD I live in central FL and I am sure I run the same areas or alike as you do. Longtail is nice but my buddies with 35sd go every where I do just a lot faster and way better on fuel.

Like i said I and MOST of the people that have Longtails out there with boats that can handle a 35SD would have gone that route. My next motor will be a SD (hopefully a 7000MB).

I ALSO really like Pro Drives. Every boat I have been in with a Pro drive worked and ran awesome!! D Duck on United water fowlers of florida has a gator trax with a worked Pro drive and he was doing 30 mph with 3 people in it (I was one of them).
