Like i said im not tryin to start a war or get crticized to death for askin a question but does anybody have a 1648 with a 27lt on it and if so wat kind of speeds are you gettin? i know on my 1448 i can go with just me and one other guy no gear just gas and batt im gettin 21 down the river. The question i have is will putting my motor on a 1648 drop my speeds 6 mph down to 15? I had somebody tell me today that a 27 on a 1648 wouldnt run over 15 mph.

Sounds a lil low to me.

And thats what i was thinkin but see ive been talkin to a guy with a 1648 lookin a longtail and he swears it wont go over 15 with a 27lt

I have a 1644 w/27 and run 21 unloaded. 18, two people light load. 13, three people and heavy hunting load.

It should definitely run better than that. I get 16 with my 25 lt on a 16x48 jon at 2850 rpms.

You should get better speeds,specially loaded

I was getting about 20 mph with a 23 gdlt on a 1648 Jon boat, and about 18 mph with two people and hunting gear

I have your same motor (Beavertail 27 lt) and on my 1648 with slick bottom I got 17.7 with me, buddy and fishing gear last weekend. I imagine if I play with the throttle and get the sweet spot I can get 18.

how thick is your boat wont it a bass tracker?

Yeh it was a bass tracker. Welder said it was a .90 gauge.

prolly a lil heavier than say a .070 alumacraft.

Maybe by urself light load. That 17.7 was on a windy day with cooler and friend

But don't get me wrong that's good speeds for a longtail. It gets across the lake good enough for me

My 16x44 100 ga. Did 22 with my 25 gdlt with just me in it. Fell way down after another person and ice chest was in it.

mudduck1448, my speeds are almost identical to kibb's: 19.5 mph by myself, 17.5 two hunters and all the gear, 15 three hunters (@200 # each). This is on a .100 gauge 2004 grizzly w/2004 MB 27 HP Kohler LT. Running a 9x6 Hill prop (my 9x7 Tiger is slower), steelflex bottom of hull; 4200 rpm out of water, 3850 rpm in the water top end. A war on this site is inevitable, we have self-proclaimed Neanderthals and a sprinkiling of clannish Cro-Magnon, at least the latter have painting adorning their cave walls and they bury their dead. With the discovery of fire and the brewing of beer they keep the thals at bay and mitigate their existential misery.
