 25 kohler longtail
I will soon be buying a 25 kohler longtail that weigths 186 pounds. I have a 14x38 Jon boat. Will the motor and a marine battery, and a 3 gallon gas tank be too heavy for it. I think I would have to wield flotation pods on it. What do you guys think?

 Re: 25 kohler longtail
pretty sure the pods will help, but a 16 ft hull would be better

 Re: 25 kohler longtail
Lol at jaws, and I only have the cash for the motor and pods. And I like a 14 foot boat to move around better

Fuck off you queer bastard, I'm 16 and your trying to agure with me. Your probably a 30 year old titty baby. The reason I ask questions is because I'm new to mud motors

 Re: 25 kohler longtail
Look kid I'm being serious here, if a 27 is to much for your boat a 25 is going to be to, the weight difference between the 2 is negligible. You would be better off putting the 20 hp you first posted about on there, or going smaller still. your boat is short and narrow, your asking for trouble putting a big motor on the back of it especially for your first mm. These things aren't like an outboard, they can get away from you quick.

 Re: 25 kohler longtail
Im pretty sure there is no weight difference between a 27 and a 25. Your best bet is to find a buddy with a big longtail and run his first so you can see they arent as easy to run as they look trust me they will hurt you if you arent careful. On that narrow of a boat 23 is the absolute biggest you should go and i wouldnt even go that big. If youve got the money for a big lt then buy a nice 13hp lt for shallow water and buy an outboard for the big water stuff. Just my. 02.

Yeah i would not put that on that boat i know from experience, Im new to the mud motor thing also but i bought a 27 lt and put it on my old boat which was a 1438 and about sunk it. I wouldnt put but a 20 on it or just do like mudduck said.

 Re: 25 kohler longtail
My first duck boat was a beat up, leaky 1436 square jon from French Settlement, La. , courtesy of my Cajun mentor. Before I put on an 18 HP GD LT, I ran it with a 25 Evinrude and that puppy flew- I only swamped it once- the motor started at full throttle in gear- that is not supposed to happen- and it threw me out but I was holding on to the gunwale and after a couple of spins I reached back and hit the kill switch on the end of the tiller handle. Whew. The 'Rude was costing me a lot of dough every time I took it to the shop and I finally got the 18 GD and it was a lot slower but I got to the "promised land" and I've never looked back. In truth, I could still get mighty close to much of the ducky areas with a conventional outboard but with the mud motor I can go pretty much in a straight line. I concur that a 25 would be asking for trouble in that 1438, do as mudduck1448 counseled. Make sure you take all the safety gear with you and wear the kill switch lanyard!

 Re: 25 kohler longtail
serious answer here.
no bigger than 20 hp on that hull. I ran a 20 lt on a 14x36 for years and almost sunk it numerous times. If the handle gets away from you, the lt will push the boat around in a circle and plow the back of the boat under water.
and learn to use the search feature or your welcome here will be short lived.
