Post Do i need a fuel pump or not
I have searched and found a electric fuel pump i was about to buy for my 20 hp briggs lt, I have no vacum hose so got to use a electric pump but a buddy at work said i need no pump at all, i could just us my primer bulb to get gas up than once its running it will siphon the gas up from the tank. Is that true. Ill have my tank below the motor about 2 ft and right below. I think without a fuel pump it would run than die unless i kept pumping it by hand. What ya all say?

easy enough to test in the yard, let us know what you find.

I did the same with my 13 hp Briggs lt and I had to get an electric fuel pump to keep fuel in the lines. It got old real quick having to pump the ball every 30 seconds but give it a try you might have different results!

you need a fuel pump. there is no such thing as an uphill siphon. pulling the fuel up to the motor would require suction, which is not the same thing. a normal vacuum pump works on suction, a carb doesn't suction fuel all by itself.

mount the fuel pump low enough so it can self prime (below the level of the top of the gas tank) unless it's a self priming pump.

My buddy still says that no pump is needed I say he is crazy, he built a motor without a pump an had to keep priming it, now he says that the boat fuel tank gets pressure and pushes fuel up
