Mounting an Outboard on a Go-Devil Boat
I recently purchased a 1644 Go devil boat with a 27hp lt. I like the boat allot and would like to mount an outboard on it in the future. It is the perfect size and I love the layout. Any ideas of what size motor? I was thinking about a 40hp 2stroke? I have a 50 yamaha 2 stroke but it is a long shaft motor 20". Just a thought?

According to the go devil website the max hp is 30, but I wouldnt hesitate to run a 40 on it.

I say pull an "Uncle J" and slap a 250 on it. But if your skeered, 40 should work just fine.

What Maxxis said.
I've seen people run 40's and 50's on alot less boat than that, get a jack plate and run it. It prolly weighs about the same as that 27 lt.

Re: Mounting an Outboard on a Go-Devil Boat
thats what i was thinking. doesnt make any sense to take off a 27hp godvl and put on a 25hp outbrd? the 50hp yamaha weighs 193lbs. my concern is that an outboard motor puts a different kind of stress on the boat than the mud motor. is that why go devil offers no warranty on the boat with outboards? if you are a boat guy you know what i am talking about when i say "different" engineering stress from one motor to the other. mudmotors push? outboards "dig" and pick up the hull pulling in on the sides making the transom the pivot point of the boat and load. mudmotor boats need to be strong but are "pushed" like a barge. this is why they are much different in design. just my opinion! tell me if you think im crazy. my wife tells me that all the time! thanks for the help and i enjoy the responses.

After all the shity rivited boats I have seen with 40 and 50 hp outboards on them, I assure you it will be fine.

As long as the transom doesn't tapper to the bottom you should be fine.

Re: Mounting an Outboard on a Go-Devil Boat
I have a jack plate that I run a Yamaha F70 on a smaller boat with pods. I'd put a 150 on it if I could afford it. Duck calls, shotguns and boat motor performance has more to do the the man behind them then the thing it's self.

Re: Mounting an Outboard on a Go-Devil Boat
Id recommend a transom saver too i guarantee that more stress is put on the transom of a boat bouncing down the road with a 200 lb motor strapped on it than you put on it while runnin in the water. esp if your in LA

Re: Mounting an Outboard on a Go-Devil Boat
I have a 1644GD and I would like to see how it does with an outboard. I have a 1972 50hp Johnson short shaft that weighs 184lb. I want to put in on a 12" jackplate (like an UltraJack). Should I weld in some bigger knee braces? The ones GD put it only come halfway up the transom.

Re: Mounting an Outboard on a Go-Devil Boat
That fella Kent over at Gator Trax told me several years ago that Go devil boats have a good transom but the problem with running an outboard on one was that it would flex amidships and end up cracking just forward of the center storage and that his boats have extra bracing to prevent the flex. I dont know if its da troof or not Im just passing it on.
