 25 HP Go-Devil Expected Speed?
I am brand new to this forum and mud motors, so I apologize in advance for any "stupid" questions. I have a 1648 Lowe Mod-V and i just picked up a 1999 Go-Devil 25 HP Kohler. With about 450 pounds of man i can get 17 mph...is this normal? Slow? Fast? I am just wondering, because i do not know what to expect. I have also seen posts about a CAV plate having something to do with not being able to hold the prop in the water and i have this issue as well. I have Beavertail float pods on their way from cabelas because i already realize that i need them in the rear end...should i weld those on or just use silicone and bolts? Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it.

Sounds about right for speed. As for the cav plate, if the prop is digging down bend the end of the plate toward the prop, if it's surfacing bend it away from the prop.

Okay... I will have to try the plate thing. Thanks for the response. I saw a post in another thread about Gator Glide? Is that just a paint that you put on the bottom of your boat to decrease drag in mud? Where can i buy some?

There should be no need for pods on that hull?
Why you do you say you need them?

the back end sits way lower in the water than it did before...I do a ton of bowfishing and with me, two batteries, the motor, ten gallons of gas, and 150 pounds of generator it sags in the back and becomes hard to plane out.
