Post Mad Mud Motor with 16hp
I got me a duromax from maxtool I would like to use but I was wondering what size of base plate do I need? Also what thickness should I use? Do I use the same size cavitation plate as in the plans and just move it up on the shaft to fit the larger prop? When I go get some flat bar for the braces, how much length would I need? Since mine is electric start, where do I mount the battery? On the frame or in the boat?

This is going on a 1448 so what size of prop should I get? What speeds can I expect. Im not looking to win races. Ill be happy with 10-15mph. Is this possible?

Thanks for any help!

It should tell you how much material you need in the plan book you got from mad mud motor. Id still use the 1/4" plate for the base, but bump up the flat steel to beef up the support. Spend the money and have a machine shop cut the threads for the prop. Well woth the money and its pretty much a guarantee the theads will be strait.

The plans are for a 5-6.5 motor. Thats the reason why Im asking for the larger 16hp motor. It just tells you can modify the plans for the larger motors but does not go into the specific. I will have a machine shop thread the shaft for sure.

Mine is a 9hp . The thing with the base is it needs to be big enough to balance out the motor when complete. I did my support braces a lil different and think it works fine. Lemme know of u want pics.

If you dont mind. Please send a picture. Do you think 1/4 will be thick enough or do I need to go up on size.

Whats ur e mail? I think 1/4 will be fine, my buddy built a 16hp and used 1/4 " for the base and he BEATS his motor like a rented mule. We have hit big rocks wide open and hasnt been any damage yet. Just make it big enough so the motor balances. You could always email the mad mud motor guy and ask him what size plate he thinks.

I just finished up a 13 hp using the mad mudmotor plans. i used the same 1/4 inch base plate but made it longer and wider, did the same with the cavation plate and skag, upgraded the 3/4 x 3/16 inch flat bar to 1 inch x 3x16, and used a 8x4 hill marine, did everything else by the book except the pivot mount. put this on a 14x48 flatbottom. it is faster than i thought it would be, will try it again tomarro with the GPS, im guessing 10-15 mph was in a small pond so i couldnt run wide open.
