longtail shaft material?
So I searched the forum a bit and saw a few different answers.. I broke the shaft in my mudbuddy 24hp longtail, and I happen to have a buddy who works at a machine shop and offered to make a replacement for me. Is 4140 heat treated steel what I'm looking for? If not what do you guys suggest? Thanks, Jim.

4140 stainless is what mudbuddy uses. not sure about heat treating, or to what hardness. seems like I remember Rockwell 36 to 38.
call mudbuddy and ask, they'll answer your question.
