Just order my new SWOMP 23 this afternoon. I'm pretty pumped about too! It'll be going on a 1440 riveted boat for now. I almost got the 14hp but I figured later it'd be easier to find a good used 15'-16' boat than it would be to find a good used SWOMP 23. So I paid the extra $600 and got the 23. But anyways, what do ya'll think about the SWOMP 23 on a riveted 1440? BTW, the 23 is running me $3,500 including shipping. And these guys at Back-H20 Inc. have thought of damn near everything. I was told the in's and out's of the way the Revo-Clean bearing system, anf the Surface Tracer cav plate works. Plus the motor swings into the boat for trailering and it locks into place so you really don't even have to strap in down. I'll definately keep everyone updated but for right now I'd like to know what everyone thinks about the 23hp on a 1440. Thanks fellers! |

Congratulations! You will be fine on that 1440. Of course by trial and error you will find out how to sort out your weight, I ended up moving the battery up front. Does that motor come with a recoil start as well as electric? They used to, which is a plus if your battery runs down. Most here will agree that you will run better on a 15.16.17' hull but for now enjoy. Some claim that adding flotation pods on the transom of your 14' hull would help and if you are keeping it for any length of time that might be a suggestion or just wait till you can get a 1644 size hull. That hull is ok for two hunters and gear but that's it. Let us know how your maiden voyage goes! |

Well here's the deal. I've got a 1756 G3 with a 50hp Yamaha. That's what I use to run the big water. I really only use my small boat to run across a bean field that we hunt. The run is only like a mile each way. Now that I have the SWOMP 23, I know I'll be exploring new territory! I think since this boat makes up like 50% of my hunting, the SWOMP 23 and my 1440 will serve me well until I decide I want a SLIGHTLY bigger boat. |

That motor would be be good enough to push a 16 footer if you decide to upgrade, those SWOMP's have me impressed. Congrats! |

I don't want a 16 foot boat. I've already got a 17 foot G3. It serves the purpose of getting me and a heavy load across big water quickly. My small boat is used to carry guys and gear to our blind that sits across a 250 acre soybean field. If there are more than 3 guys hunting, I'll make 2 trips. It's not a huge deal at all. I'm also gonna use the boat to get to some tight timber spots that we've never really been able to hunt. So I need that small boat. Plus I never hunt out of my little boat anyways. I guess I'd like to have a 1542 to put the SWOMP on, but I'm not gonna sell my boat and buy a new one just to gain a foot in length and 2 inches in width. |

^yep youll never experience the full potential of that motor on a 14. and you say youll only use it sometimes but ill bet when you get it youll find yourself taking it out just to ride and explore. ive had mine for 4 months and have already put 30 hrs on it just from riding |

i do agree with the longer boat but when i was over their getting my motor over a year ago they were still testing the 23 on diffrent boats and the 14' was one of them they spent some time on it will be just fine |

I'm curious what the verdict is with the 23HP on a 14' boat. What kind of mph do you get? |

So I purchased the 23 swomp. To my surprise, I got 19.5 mph on my 14x48 Jon boat with just me (210 lbs) and my 10 year old son. Adding all the hunting gear and an extra man, I get 16 mph. I was amazed with how well the cavitation plate worked. It ran perfectly without even holding the handle - effortless. |
