I put a new 16 hp maxtool engine on my longtail frame and made it out today for the first time. The boat is a riveted 1436. Was unable to check the phone gps but did notice the boat will now get up on plane, barely, but still will plane. It was just me on the boat(165lbs). I was running what I guess to be an 8x4 prop. Idle was 910 rpm and max was 1500. Just thought Id share... |

look for 3200 to 3600 rpm, and you should be able to turn a 9x4 or 9x5 prop depending on load. somethings wrong. |

8x4 is the right prop, you might have a throttle linkage problem. Those single cylinder 16hp motors don't have the torque of a v twin. |

I agree I should be getting more RPM's. Right now the throttle is an old bike brake rigged to the governor control spring(not sure how else to descripe it). Is there any way to get more range out of the throttle? should I run it directly to the carb or another way than it is currently? is that safe? Just cautios because The old honda gx390 on it blew up from too many rpms |

yur govener is there to prevent you from blowin it up. well, as long as its set right. i wouldnt hook straight to the gov. you need to be hooked up to the throttle on the carb. thats the right way to do it. yur gov spring is then hooked to yur throttle off the carb. look at any motor out of the factory and their hooked straight to the carb. |
