The mfg. usually provides in the manual the recommended cranking amps for the battery...would not hurt to get a few more amps, because you are usually running the lights and what not in addition to starting the motor. Whatever you settle on make sure it is topped off and it would not hurt to carry a crank box for emergencies. I guess the owners of 23 Briggs have the recoil start for that event.

I would go with a small car battery they last alot longer than a mower battery does.
