Post Std length longtail on 20" transom
i'm looking at getting a new boat and a surface drive next year. I want to finish out the year with my old long tail. I know it wont be as efficient but can anyone tell me what I might expect running a standard length LT on a tall transom?

I imagine I will be adjusting the cavitation plate but will it run? and what might I expect in MHP loss due to efficiency?

on 16x48 all weld (19mph alone with dog and decoys. 17 mph with 2 people),

thanks

A friend ran that setup for a few years and it was a bear keeping the prop in the water and he eventually cut down the transom to 16" and gained easily about 3 mph. Adjusting the plate will help some but it can't overcome the increase angle which really robs performance. I guess I will go the shortail route when my arm cannot handle the LT any more, but it certainly does the job for now!
