Post subject:  Transom Too tall for new motor

I have 648 war eagle with the 21" transom, from my reading online I have noticed a lot of guys complaining of poor performance out of their longtail motors with this height of transom. Well I just bought a 35hp beavertail with a 70" shaft. My question is two part.

1) Will the transom height adversely effect performance
2) What fixes are their aside from cutting my boat or buying new boat.

Thank you guys in advance for helping a newby, and yes I understand this has probably been covered, but I couldnt find it. Im 57 and new to message boards.

Thanks,
Buck

Welcome!
More than likely you will see some performance issues but aside from that it'll run just maybe not to its full potential. Your options are pretty slim... I'd try the combo out first and see if it meets your expectations, if it doesn't I'd see what you might be able to change to make your setup better for your needs be its sell the motor and look for a tall transom model...(which MB might not make?) or look into a surface drive. you could also sell the boat and look at getting one that is a little larger? Let us know how it runs and what path you end up taking!

Try it out first, it may be fine. If not, having the transom cut down is an easy and inexpensive fix.
