 thrust bearing setup?
im in the process of building a 16 hp longtail and im going with bushings in the shaft and on the end if i cant find a reasonable price to machine cups for bearings to slip into. for the top bearing im going to use a two hole flange bearing that will be mounted to a peice welded to the shaft housing. my question is where do i need a thrust bearing and what is the purpose? another question is do i need to seal the lower bushing on the prop end? aslo how long will my threads for the prop be? trying to get everything ordered. and dont give me the crap about the search buttom ive used it and cant find anything dont need any smart comments.
thanks

 Re: thrust bearing setup?
not sure about thread length, but yes you need to seal the prop end of the shaft, and have a way to grease it. you dont need a thrust bearing, that is for a radial load as if something was pushing inline with the shaft. just make sure your u joint has a keyway and tighten it very securely

 Re: thrust bearing setup?
Correct. Best way is to thread the end of the shaft tube and have your seals thread in like GD and the others do.

 Re: thrust bearing setup?
You can rig up a bicycle brake lever with a throttle cable. You can buy them at MB or Bog Hog website. You also need operator presence switch(emergency disconnect)

 Re: thrust bearing setup?
i havent decided on the bearings for the lower end becaue i want to use the ones that will be able to fit in the cup the best. obviouly the sealed bearings with a few oil seals.
