I just bought a 2 year old 6.5 go devil long tail motor. I got it cheap because the seller had it sitting for a while and wasnt currently running. I plan on doing the standard cleanup and maintenance to get it back up and runnng (clean out fuel change plugs lubricate etc) but am wondering if there is anything else I should look into replacing or fixing. it had been used in saltwater and the prop bolt etc are somewhat rusted, should I buy a whole new prop kit or try and clean it up? this is my first mud motor other than using a friends short tail gtr. Also what are thoughts on putting it on a 14 foot v hull with 28 inch sides, 50 inches wide. formerly had a 4 horse tiller on it wondering how a 6.5 lt would run. once i get it cleaned up i will post some pics. |

hey go geter thanks for the input, the prop cup is still in pretty good shape as well as prop but i will most likely upgrade to a new stainless when i get over having to drop the cash for the shiny stuff as i will be using it in saltwater on occasion. Put in some hours on it today starting with routine stuff, changed air filter and oil, cleaned out fuel tank and lines, greased all gun points and did a thorough detail on any spots with the metal brush and dremmel. going to take it to the shop over the weekend to have them check the carb and clean or replace it before I go any further but once thats done hopefully will be able to take her for a spin. added a couple of pics as it was before the work i mentioned done today. Anyone have an easy remedy to get a semi rusty prop off without dropping the cash for a prop wrench? the owners manual says use a pipe wrench and "pull hard" but i couldnt seem to get it to budge even after lubing the hell out of it. ill try and post some pics once its all done and on the rig, maybe even a vid. |

Hold backup on the nut in front of the prop them use a crow baron the prop and shaft. Use your body weight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
