Im collecting pieces to build a longshaft motor to go on a 1436 flat bottom. Im trying to decide on which route to go with on the engine. If I find a good used its one thing but if I go new, I dont want to go too big or too small. |

13 hp honda if you wanna go light and still have decent power, i have seen a few 18 and 23 hp briggs but be carful when getting off step or you could take water over the transom.(also need higher sides like 16 to 18 inch sides to be safe) |

I asked this on the engine forum but does anyone here have any experiance with the knock off engines? I can get an LCT from one of my suppliers at work for about 300 delivered. Commercial series 414cc 13hp with recoil and electric start. A new honda is probably going to be out of budget, Might could scrounge up a used one. I hate to roll the dice on fleabay. |

I have a MaxTool 16 hp homemade longtail on a 14x42 DuraCraft, but it has 20" sides. Runs good. Hope this helps. Mudde |

I ordered the 420 predator engine today. It looks like it and the maxtool motor are both bored out gx390 clones. I just have better access to harbor freight if I need a replacement engine quick. I hope my plans come in soon so I can get the rest of the materials ordered too. Ill definatly start a build thread when I get started! |

I have a 16hp GDLT on my 1436 but I put pods on it or else Im sure I would have sunk it by now. a 13hp would probably be about right. I wouldnt go any more than 16 for sure! |

We run a 23 hp van on a 1436 monarch. Hadn't had any problems with the weight on the transom. We added styrofoam below the deck to help with flotation and it does just fine. It's not fast by any means but so far its run through everything we've put it in... hull print in the mud and all!!! |

i built a 11hp lt with the hf preditor engine,,,,346cc,,,ive been running it on a 14/36 welbilt,, the boat is on the heavy side since ive added floor and gunboxs,,250 empty,,it runs 15mph at 3800rpms,,8x4 prop one guy and dog,,two guys gear and dog,,13mph at 3500rpms,the tail is all aluminum and wieght 110lbs,,the 13hp electric start preditor would get it just a bit better,,.you can see my rig in the complete rigs for sale section. |

How did adding styrofoam below the deck help flotation? |

Well Mr garrett let me futher explain what and why i put that comment about the flotation in there. I put the comment about the styrofoam in just idea of the extra weight in the boat. It was put under the deck to help with flotation just incase we ever found ourself and/or the boat wrong side up. SORRY i didnt explain in better detail what was meant by this the first time. ![]() |

I'm running a Predator 420 on my 1436. I only am running a 62 inch shaft w/ 8x4 prop. boat weights in at approx 300 lbs with nothing in it due to adding decking, seats, battery, trolling motor and lighting (Bowfishing). With that combo and two people I can still push 20 mph. My boat sits level in the water due to alot of forward weight from the decking and battery (located it up front).... |

I ran an 18 HP GD LT for several years on a 1436 beat up jon boat. I was lucky not to have sunk it. It worked ok but you have to be very careful not to exceed the carrying capacity, and that is a trial and error method. I would definitely not put on anything heavier. Safe and happy mud running! |

Something light, I ran a 1436 with a 20 GDLT, it was ok. It just plowed water. It got us to where we needed to go, but you couldn't get in a hurry. Go light with plenty of power. Maybe a copperhead. |

18 copperhead would be badass.. Those Lct motors that come on the 10s and 12s are pieces of shit.. I've had 5 or 6 friends that had them an they all blew up, too much vibration.. They went to kohler an Briggs motors and didnt have any more problems |
