Post subject:  Longtail on a 15' jon boat

Hey guys, I have 15' jon boat that im currently running a 13hp Honda on and it seems to have little to no power. I think the prop I have is too big for one, its a 9X5. Is a 13hp a good size or should I get a bigger motor? Also what kind of trim set ups do you guys have? Mine is just a bolt on the back that I screw up and down that pushes up on the botom plate but its a pain to have to reach around to the back of the motor to screw it up and down. Any suggestiosn would be awesome!!!

Thanks

I have a 15 foot Tracker with a 16hp GDLT. Runs pretty good. I get about 16 mph with two people and gear loaded in it. I don't know that I would put too much more engine on the back of this boat though. I would like to see what a 23 hp would feel like though. Just don't know if the transom could handle it, being a cheap, riveted boat and all.

It will feel like that at first if you are used to outboards. But just wait until you get it in the mud. Speed will be meaningless then.

Prop is 2 big. My 20 calls for a 9 x 4

I never seen a trim adjustment on a longtail. I just adjusted my cavitation plate so the motor dont blow out the water. Let it run the depth it wants

I wouldn't think the size prop you are running would kill the motor unless it has other issues. It just wouldn't get enough rpm's under load. Just be bogged down.
