Post subject:  Longtail Build Questions

Just picked up a 7hp Honda clone for my build. Im putting this longtail on a layout boat I built which is 10' long and weights 95lbs. Im thinking about using a 60" drive shaft. With such a small motor, what size DOM tubing should I buy for my shaft housing? 1-1/4 OD x .188 wall x .874 ID, 1-3/8 x .250 wall x .875 ID, 1-1/2 OD x .250 wall x 1.00 ID? Also, not sure if I should go with a 6.5 X 4 prop or a 7 X 4 prop from Hill Marine. any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks

I use 1 1/4" OD 1" ID. DOM tubing. I think you might be getting a little too heavy with the others you mentioned especially on the short boat you mentioned.
I use 7 x 5 props.

Is the ID for you shaft housing truly 1"? I can't seam to find anything even close. Where do you buy your DOM from?

Would you suggest a 7 x 5 for my application?

Yes it is pretty close never measured it specifically. I thread the OD and turn bearing housings for the ends.

I get it from my steel supplier. I am in a family owned a machine/ fab shop.
