Post Bicycle Brake Cable Throttle
I am trying to use the brake lever off of a bike for the throttle on a 23hp Briggs. What is the best way to attach the cable to the throttle lever at the motor end? The old cable was doubled back on itself and clamped with one of these, but it was a pain to adjust:

the cable should have a barell or a piece on the end that slides into a slot on the lever

Sorry, I didn't explain that well. I'm trying to figure out how to attach it at the carb end of the cable.

I just made a loop through a hole on the throttle lever and crimped it. Right or wrong its been working for years.

Yeah those things are garbage. There's one on my stumpjumper and it comes loose all the time.

Can you just replace the old throttle with a bike brake or do you need a new cable?

Got it set up. I drilled a hole through a bolt with a big shoulder on it, that bolts to the throttle and pivots. Then the cable stop clamps down on the cable.

The bike brake barely doesn't have enough throw. I may have to try a different handle.

I got the BPS on my stumpjumper. It takes some grinding but I got it on.

Anyone tried the twist type throttle grip...from Sliphover throttle systems?

On my last build, I used a clutch engagement handle from a tiller. It has a bit more travel than a brake lever and was about $25 for the handle and 40" cable.

I will see if I can dig up some pictures.

I can't get enough throw out of this bike brake handle. You can adjust it so the motor will idle, or hit WOT, but not both. I am thinking about ordering a BPS handle. Will their cable fit a 23hp Vanguard? How does it attach on the motor end?

You probably bought a short pull handle. They make a long pull handle too. Buy that one instead.

This is what I got from the local bike shop:

How do I tell if a lever is a long pull? Will this one do the job?

Search - lever style throttle , 20$ , 30 minutes .

I put one , clutch style , long throw from local motorcycle shop on my longtail .I listed the part # so anybody could order in the above post , I think it was in feburary. The kind I used would fit the go devil handle with no grinding or adjustments. Works great instant throttle response beats that stock throttle.

Thanks HF. Somebody welded a section of 7/8" tube into the end of my handle though, so I need something smaller.

Broke my old throttle yesterday so a bike brake throttle was the plan for the day.
Walked into a bike shop bought the cheapest brake lever and cable then put it all together.
Total of $15 and 45 min from getting off the couch to completion.
