Also new to longtails. Bought a 20hp MBLT on a 1648 grizzly. Looks to me like previous owner greased the hell out of it or wondering if seals are shot. Prop is in decent shape. Last time out I had a lot of grease coming out of the top of the shaft and the prop started slinging some around too. Thoughts? |

How many hours are on it? It shouldn't be slinging copious amounts of grease. As far as the prop is concerned , you should probably measure it. Props can look ok and have 1/2 an in missing, which can make all the difference in the world . |

I don't know. But if grease is coming out by the spoon full, I would think your seals are gone. |

Based on what I see, I would say yes, replace the seals. You probably need new seals on the bottom and possibly a new shaft. I just went through this with a used go devil 23 I bought. I was hesitant to do it myself, but after reading the owners manual and talking with the owner of go devil several times, I dove into it. I have a better understanding of how it all works and I am glad I did it. |

First off, congrats! Secondly, being a "new to you" motor, I'd replace seals, bushings, bearing, shaft, and prop. That's a few extra hundred dollars that'll give you peace of mind knowing all the critical components are brand new and will last a good while. Then run the fire out of it! |

10-4 on what Frank said. The GD LT I had (both of them) oozed a lot of grease so I typically carried a grease gun. Not so with the MB roller bearing setup. I grease it a lot less. Parts are not that expensive and so it is worth the investment to replace these so you don't have a failure/breakdown. In the MB manual it clearly states the dangers of over-greasing the bearings.
