I believe the performance upgrades are limited on the Kohler motors. Make sure you're motor is tuned up and running properly and make sure your propeller isn't too worn. Other than that, try the search feature on this forum. You'll learn a lot. |

What Frank said. Get a spare prop. The 25/27 LT's are rated for 9x7 but my 27 runs better with a 9x6, I am just above sea level so what conditions you run in, elevation, load, all are factors on selecting the best prop. I would recommend synthetic oil and grease. I would remove any foam pre-cleaner on the air filter. I would advance the throttle and set the motor to around 4200 rpm out of the water. Because you don't have gear reduction (excepting on the MB SLT- which is still very new) on the LT, additional rpm's have very limited gains.I tried running "hot" plugs but no real difference- just get standard ones like Champion or NKGD. The beauty of the LT is its simplicity. Depending on your hull, balance your weight. Make sure the cavitation plate is just under the water- bend the trailing edge of the plate (or "trim tab" supplied with some LT's) carefully 1/4" at a time, up or down, to get the best result. Gatorglide or Steelflex is suggested for the boat hull bottom. If you bought a used motor, check the shaft- if the there is excessive play at the prop end, change out the bearings and seals. Tighten all motor/frame nuts/bolts. Make sure your kill switch is working and wear that lanyard! No substitute for stick time! If you have not done so, change the oil/filter/plugs and do so at the recommended intervals. If there is no tiny tack, install one. Ok, enough said for now, all this is minimal cost so don't cuss at me! ![]() |

Sorry, misspelling- I meant "tiny tach", and you can buy direct from them and save some $; real easy to install and helps you monitor motor function, idle, engine hours, etc. There are a number of props out there: MB's are good, I found a Ron Hill for cheap that is very stout; of course GD and now BackH20 offers some. You might inquire locally what other LT owners are running and their experience is invaluable. |

thanks for the help guys jst what i was looking for. lots of small things that are easy to overlook even being a mechanic like myself. yet i know how the engine works and the idea and setup of it the small 25 kholer is a little under my expertise of large diesel engines and farm equipment so of course there are people that love to upgrade and run to thier full potentional like expert mud motor guys and the guys doing garden tractor pulling. so any more tips are very helpfull. i do hope to jst rebuild it in the future so i know wat i have and upgrade it then. and yes the kill switch was my first check as it didnt work so it got rewired and the scary thing is that i ran it for a buddy all fall before buying it last week, but were all good now. but all the little things is wat im looking for and also info on the carb. |
