Post Swapping 9 HP B&S for 13 Honda on Go-Devil
Hey guys,

I'm purchasing a 1436 with a 9 HP GD from a friend of mine. He said he has a 13 Honda motor as well. Has anyone done the swap? What would it entail? Are mounting holes the same?

Just looking for a little bit of insight before me and him start wrenching on this motor.

Also, GD recommends a 8x4 prop for the 9 hp. What would you guys recommend for the 13?

Yeah you would need to change props out to get the best preformance and far as hole pattern it should be the same. Other then that you just swap em out.

The most critical part of that swap is making sure the shaft is centered in the upper bushing or bearing. If it is not perfectly centered, up and down and side to side, the shaft will put excessive side load on the bearing or bushing and cause early failure due to heat build up. The newer models with an upper bearing are much more forgiving when it comes to alignment, but still should be centered. Download the service manual from GD and it will explain the alignment procedure.

Thanks for the info guys and for the heads up about the alignment.

Pretty excited about getting this little rig for next duck season.
