I hear everyone say you should be able to lift the prop out the water with a finger or two while running. On my engine I have to actually push it down and it has the tendency to turn the boat some on the way up out the water. Also depending on how the boats loaded I guess the prop will kick out the water. It doesn't always do it while im running just some times any advice is appreciated.

Go Devil has the balanced motor you can lift with one or two fingers. The other motors do not operate like that. To be honest, you do not want to be able to pull it up that easy. If you can pull it up then grass can pop it out of the water easily on idle. I know this from experience. If i am running it cuts grass ad stays in water. If I am on an idle I have to hold it in the water sometimes.

Mine (local built Step Out with a 25 HP kohler) wanted to run completely out of the water.

My cav plate did not have an adjustment tab. I took a hand grinder, and cut slots on the outside edge of the cav plate, and used two adjustable wrenches to bend up it and put a little angle on it. Now at WOT, the cave plate runs just under the surface of the water. For some reason it sometimes wants to dig down a little deeper at lower RPMs.

I am not one of the experts.
