Absolutely not. You ought to be damn near unstoppable in that thing in skinny water and timber with stumps.

How wide is the boat?

I run a 16hp on a 1436 and wish I would have gone bigger at times

I used to run a 1436 with a 24 Honda and I really liked it. The only think is I had to put battery and tank In the front bc me and the motor n the back pushed water. So once I did that it ran real well. I then moved all that back n the back and put trim tabs on it (angle iron) and it was a great Lil combo

I'm running a 35 hp longtail on a 15ft commercial hull. I think you will be happy with that setup.

would it not be smart to run a 16 to 23 hp longtail on a riveted 1542 boat?
