Brand spankin' new to MMT so thanks in advance. We have always been able to get by with a smaller flat bottom Jon coupled with an outboard, but... I just bought a used boat/motor (1648 semi v running a 25 Kohler MB LT) and would like some maintence tips or any misc. upkeep ideas. The motor has maybe 200 hours on it. i have changed all filers, replaced plugs, and re-ran fuel lines. We took the boat out to a local river inlet and it seemed to run flawlessly. We were running aprox. 18mph with 2 guys according to the GPS. Thanks again for any help. |

Hi, I have about the same rig, but a flat bottom riveted boat. If possible run the kohler with synthetic oil, and keep the gas filter clean. Have fun. P. |

Welcome to the lawmower on the water forum! Actually, the beauty of a LT is the simplicity of design and the comparatively low prices of replacement parts and maintenance. I would advise to run Sta-bil or SeaFoam in the gas even if it does not sit for a long time without running. I run mine every week to prevent carb issues. After so many hours, a carb rebuild can be done fairly easily. You are getting very good speed with two on board so that would indicate the prop and drive train is working like it should. Ditto on the synthetic oil, and I also use synthetic grease in the drive housing. On the MB be careful not to over-grease the top bearing and U-joint. I removed the foam "pre-cleaner" on the air filter in my Kohler 27 and it seems to get better air flow and combustion. After all, we're not cutting grass, except at the prop under water. I've got the same 1648 hull and I've moved the battery up front-mostly because there was not enough room in the back for it and the six-gallon tank. Keep the battery topped off and one of those emergency "jump" boxes are nice to have just in case. Have fun! |

Thanks so far y'all - any further advice is much appreciated. I am repainting the boat, motor and trailer, and installing a control panel, running lights, so when she's all finished I will post some pics. Thanks again |
