Post Predator engine
Just got done building my first longtail. Was able to test drive it and was very pleased with how it turned out. My only problem with it is they way the motor mount is, when I try to take sharper turns the motor tilts and trips the oil sensor, is there a way to bypass this sensor?

Disconnect the oil sensor add a little extra oil to compensate for tilting and turning.

Is it as easy as just unplugging the wires or do I have to bypass them to complete the circuit?

I've got a 13 hp predator on a homemade aluminum longtail frame. I have had no problem with it shutting down while turning. I take a lot of turns but most of the time I keep the motor straight and steer by leaning the boat into the direction I want to go. I would not bypass the oil sensor and just add more oil. Small lawnmower engines are very picky when it comes to to much oil. Crank hits oil and causes oil to foam and oilpump to run dry and engine damage happens. I learned this on a tiller a few years back with just about 1/2 qt. To much. Good luck though. I'd be looking to angles in engine etc.

I don’t think the 13hp single cylinder motor has an oil pump. I believe it has an oil slinger attached to the crank. I have a 16 hp duramax motor and it is set up that way. I build a small surface drive with it and I have turned very sharp and have not had any trouble with the low oil sensor. I would check the sensor to make sure it is working properly and make sure your oil is at the proper level. I would not recommend disconnecting the sensor or over fill the crank case.

I had a stump-jumper with a 7 hp Robin and the tilting of the engine caused it to shutoff. Called manufacturer and was told to disconnect the low oil sensor, check oil level and it ran like a scalded dog.

When running ANY air cooled motor you need to certain oil level is FULL. I don't need a low oil sensor to tell me that, I check mine before and after running.

Oil level sensors are relatively new in the small engine world - millions of small engines lasted for years without such a doo-dad, BUT, back then, people were responsible for ensuring the engine had enough oil in it...

I see many low oil sensors each year, mostly on generators that sit for prolonged periods of time, that "stick" - creating a hiccup in the gittup. Some of them you can disconnect, start the engine, and plug back in and it works, others stay "stuck"

IMHO, as long as you are willing to ensure your engine has the proper oil level, there is nothing wrong with disconnecting it.

BTW, on the honda clone - I would recommend disconnecting the LOS at the double pin connector rather than down at the sensor itself...

Just cut them off right at the sensor then you can use this wire for a kill switch if needed. And when it comes time to put the new cam in you can remove the sensor all together.
